The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is a frontline extension institute established throughout the rural districts of India. The KVKs are sanctioned to agricultural Universities, ICAR institutes, related Government Departments and Non Government Organizations (NGOs) working in Agriculture. At present there are 722 KVKs in our country,which are distributed under the ICAR-ATARI (Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute) in 11 zones. In Assam there are 26 KVKs of which 23 are under the administrative control of Assam Agricultural University, two are under ICAR and One under NGO. KVKs of Assam are comes under ATARI Zone VI. KVK in Fisheries Science:At present, 14 KVKs of Assam has fisheries expert to provide frontline extension services in the field of Fisheries Science. The names of the KVKs with fisheries expert are Bongaigaon, Cachar, Dhemaji, Dhubri, DimaHasao, Jorhat, Kamrup (R), Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Udalguri.
